Dingoo A320 Native and Gamepark GP32 - vAtari v2.0

I originally made vAtari because the GP32 was sorely missing a good Atari 2600 emulator and as it happens so does the Dingoo A320 in Native mode.
The original version of vAtari for the GP32 was entered into the PACC 2010 contest. It didn't win but it did provide excellent motivation to get most of the work on it done.
Since then, this version has many fixes and enhancements including more accurate graphics and sound and higher compatibility.

My two favourite Atari 2600 games: H.E.R.O

..and River Raid

The Dingoo A320 is my first .SIM release so there is no frontend end: it uses the Dingoo Native's OS to select a ROM.

The GP32 version has a frontend: select a game and press either 'A', 'B' or 'Select' to start the game. The button you press to start determines the GP32's CPU clock rate.

In both cases, the Atari 2600 ROMs should be uncompressed and have the .A26 suffix.

Controls
* Joystick provides movement for either joystick or paddle.
* 'A' Button is the fire button.
* 'B' Button is the fire buttons on the "other" controller.
* 'START' Atari Reset.
* 'SELECT' Atari Select.
* Games the require two joysticks, hold 'B' button to use second joystick
* Games the require two joysticks, 'L Shoulder' is the other fire button

A320 Specific
* 'Power Slider' to switch off.
* Hold 'L + R Shoulder' back to O/S.
* 'L Shoulder' decrease volume.
* 'R Shoulder' increase volume.
* 'Y' toggles Player 1 difficulty.
* 'X' toggles Player 2 difficulty.

GP32 Specific
* 'SELECT + START' back to frontend.
* 'L + R' Information screen
* 'L Shoulder' toggles Player 1 difficulty.
* 'R Shoulder' toggles Player 2 difficulty.

OpenJazz for the GP32

A new port of the latest version (r36) of OpenJazz for the GP32.
Everything should be working okay and it runs quite nicely with sound and music playing.
I've included the shareware version game, however if you have the full CD version, I recommend using this for the extra levels and music!

Giana's Return now on GP32

The DIngoo A320 version of Giana was pretty straight forward (except for a little SDL bug) but that got me thinking - how well would it run on the GP32? Well it required a little more effort but surprisingly the port was fairly straight forward.
And thanks to the GP32's very nice hardware, it runs very well indeed! Please check it out.

OpenTyrian v1.0 for the GP32

More love for the GP32.

This time the classic DOS arcade shooter Tyrian or in this case OpenTyrian.

The GP32 version mode runs fullspeed at 133Mhz but with out music.

Originally intended as an entry for the GP32 revival competition which never happened, this was something I always wanted to port across to the GP32. It's turned out rather nicely too - much better than I anticipated. There are separate FLU/BLU and BLU+ versions included in the binary package

I also have a Dingoo A320 port too. I know there already is an A320 version but I did my own version of it - which is faster and has a nice full screen display. This will be available shortly.

UPDATE: I've updated the Binary Package as I originally included a slightly out-of-date executable for the BLU+ version. The FLU/BLU version was correct. The BLU+ version is fixed in v1.01. You should download the Binary Package again if you are using the BLU+ version.

MAME4ALL GP32 v1.1

Happy New Year 2010!

The GP32 is still alive and kicking!

Updated release of MAME4ALL for the GP32 v1.1.

What's MAME4ALL? It's a fantastic handheld-optimized version of MAME, the multi-arcade machine emulator. MAME4ALL was originally ported and enhanced for the GP32 and GP2X by Franxis.

This new version for the GP32 has a few tasty new features:

* Improvements to frontend.
* New graphics (by Antiriad).
* Faster code.
* New DrZ80 modes.
* Lots of bug fixes.
* New games working.

Please see the included whatsnew.txt and readme.txt for full instructions.

New Splash Screen (thanks to Antiriad, with some modifications).

Discs of Tron now works complete with artwork (included in package).

gpSpout GP32 v1.2

Distracted by the GP32.

Why another release? Did the GP32 really need an update of gpSpout?
I've played quite a lot of gpSpout on my trusty GP32. It's one of those instant on and play games that I love.
However, after playing it for many hours, i found that the scrolling wasn't quite up to scratch. Why wasn't it smooth? :-/

So i had a look at the code.
I wanted to add double buffering and flip screens with v-sync.
So i did exactly that.
Unfortunately this slowed the game down a fair bit and it no longer ran fullspeed.
I rewrote the video blit code, quick test and thankfully we've got a fullspeed game again.
Whilst i was at it, I improved the hiscore saving code to only save once on exit - help save those precious SMCs.
I also set the screen refresh to 100hz which is a good match for the game's native 50hz refresh.
The end result is significantly better display than version 1.1.
Try v1.1 first and then v1.2 so that you can appreciate the difference.

Big thanks to Florian Hufsky for the original GP32 port of Spout.

MAME4ALL GP32 v1.0

Yes, it's for the Gamepark GP32.

It's been a long time coming, the finally version 1.0 of MAME4ALL GP32.

With all the development I've been doing for the A320 Dingoo, I wanted to step back for a moment at get this out the door.

Many people will consider the GP32 dead - and for all intents and purposes it probably it is. I would say that most users have ditched it in favour of a GP2X, A320 Dingoo or even a PSP. I still have my GP32 and I can't bear to relegate it to storage. For me, it's what really piqued my interest in the handheld emulation scene - though I arrived on the GP32 scene way after it started in 2001.

Anyway, here it is.

There's a few changes from the Beta - most notably are the controls:

- Joystick: Up, Down, Left, Right of 1P.
- Buttons A,B,L,R,SELECT,START: Buttons A,B,C,D,E,F.
- Button SELECT+R: Insert credits
- Button SELECT+L: 1P Start
- Button START+B: Pause
- Button START+R: FPS display
- Button START+L: Profiler display
- Buttons L+R+SELECT: Exit to selection menu to select another game.
- Buttons START+SELECT: MAME menu.

Overall it's faster, much more stable and supports a few more games.
Most things work - including the ability to take PNG snapshots of games (though they will need to be rotated/flipped due to the GP32's non-standard video memory arrangement).

Download from the GP32 file archive.
